Rent the gear, or hire a DJ?

Rent it yourself if...

  • The ceremony just needs a mic on the officiant
  • Someone in the wedding party is comfortable running a playlist
  • You want to control the exact song list yourself
  • Budget is the deciding factor over the reception experience

Hire a DJ if...

  • You want the reception mixed live, reading the room
  • Nobody wants the job of managing music and announcements
  • You need an MC for toasts, dances, and the exit
  • The floor emptying at 9pm because of a bad transition is a real risk

Questions couples ask

Do I need a DJ, or can I rent the sound equipment and run it myself?

Depends on the day. A ceremony with a phone playlist and one mic for vows is genuinely a rent-it-yourself job — that's the Basic package. A reception where the music has to read the room and the mic has to work for a toast nobody rehearsed is a different problem. If you're not sure which one your day is, describe it on the call and we'll tell you straight, including when the answer is 'just rent it.'

What do I actually need for a ceremony?

One speaker aimed at the guests, and a wireless mic on the officiant — that's it for most ceremonies. A lapel mic is worth the extra step over handheld if there's a video being made; nobody notices good ceremony audio, everyone notices bad ceremony audio on the video afterward.

Can the same system cover both the ceremony and the reception?

If they're in the same room or close together, yes — that's what the Wedding Package is built for. If the ceremony and reception are in different spaces (outdoor ceremony, indoor reception), you need two separate setups, which is the Full Event Package.

Is delivery and setup included?

Yes, on every package. Someone drops off, sets up, and shows whoever's running it how everything works. Pickup is scheduled for after the event.

What if we'd rather just hire a DJ instead of renting gear?

That's a completely normal answer, and for a lot of weddings it's the better one — you get live mixing and someone reading the room instead of a playlist on shuffle. See our wedding DJ packages if you want a real quote for that instead.

How far in advance should we book rental equipment?

A few weeks is usually fine for equipment rental — it's less date-constrained than booking a DJ, since we're not double-booking a person, just gear. Peak wedding season weekends (April-June, September-October) are worth booking a month out to be safe.

Also renting separately: speakers, microphones, uplighting, or the full equipment catalog.
